This September you should to take time off and just kick back for a few days. As you just about never stop working - even when you are at the movies or at a party - it's time you slowed down and set to learning how to relax. I am sure that if I tell you to take up yoga or walk for one hour a day or try exercising at a gym, you will laugh and say that such activities are just not your style. Do think of your general health and how it might be affected by the way you charge ahead in an effort to make more money, provide your family with more security and become someone you yourself can respect. You could be exhausting yourself and using up the basic strength you were born with. Take time off. Plan ahead. Go somewhere alone or with good friends who are not connected to your business life. Your goal is to forget about work and chill out. There is evidence you should be more cautious at the wheel this month. If you do take a trip, don't volunteer to do the driving. Your worry wart side panics a bit in unfamiliar territory. Better let someone who likes adventure take the risks on twisty windy roads - especially in bad weather. When you return from your rest period, you may find out that in your absence from the office someone has slacked off and/or actually stolen something. It looks like documents or names - maybe email addresses of your clients. As you have known all along this person is someone you had doubts about from the day you hired them. You know they have had a difficult time recently. By hiring them you felt you were rescuing them from adversity (a typical Saint Bernard Dog trait). So you hate the idea of firing or demoting them. But they must know never to commit theft again and only you can teach them that. First, give them a good talking to. Then dock their salary or - if the larceny was grand enough - think seriously about letting them go. |
